UC3M is a public university established in 1989. From the outset it was intended to be a relatively small, innovative university, providing teaching of the highest quality and focused primarily on research. The mission of UC3M is to contribute to the improvement of society through quality teaching and cutting-edge research in line with stringent international guidelines. UC3M has 583 permanent teaching staff and 1.388 associate doctoral lecturers. UC3M lecturers have the highest proportion of research results evaluated favourably by the Ministry of Education out of all Spanish universities.

UC3M has 20.697 students of which 20% are international students. The UC3M is the 1st university in Spain and 3rd in Europe in terms of undergraduate students taking part in the Erasmus exchange programme. 42% of UC3M graduates have participated in European mobility programmes, and 17.5% took part in non-European mobility programmes.

UC3M has 29 bachelor’s courses and 13 combined degree courses; 57 official master’s courses plus 27 private master courses and 19 doctorate courses in the varying fields of investigative research ongoing at the university. More than half of the degree courses we offer can be taken either fully in English, or with an option in English or with a bilingual option
UC3M is ranked n. 27 in the QS Top 50 Under 50 a ranking of the world’s top 50 universities established within the last 50 years. In 2011, Carlos III granted the Campus of International Excellence by the Ministry of Education and Science of Spain, for the third consecutive year.
