HealthEquity-2020 – Reducing health inequalities – Preparation for regional action plans and structural funds project
The objective of the HE2020 project was to assist Member States and Regions to develop evidence-based action plans on reducing health inequalities, which also informed the use of European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) in the next programming period.
By targeting policy-makers and practitioners who make and shape policies and implement actions, the project sought to both (i) explore potential action areas and, (ii) make the case (including economic evidence) for investments to reduce inequalities through regional actions within and beyond the health sector.
The project benefitted from, and built on, existing knowledge and lessons from EUREGIO III and a portfolio of other relevant secondary health programme projects to inform entry points to actions.
The project used different methods and means to achieve its objectives: developing a toolkit and a portfolio of policy actions sensitive to differing needs, supplemented by a practical knowledge database with good practice case examples, organising an action learning workshop series, and developing follow-up action learning sets to increase knowledge and capacity of local stakeholders using social innovation.
Intensive, targeted dissemination activities, and an accessible and interactive website and online database as a resource helped the uptake of project result by EU regions.
This 3.5-year long project between 2012 and 2015 was co-financed by the Health Programme of the European Union.
